Its been a packed month so far!
Hi everyone,
Just going to give you an update about what’s been happening this past month!
So on the 28th of September we had our Freshers’ Fayre and what a success that
was! So many of you turned up it was amazing. All of our societies got a great
turn out and everyone seemed to have a real good time! Whilst it was on the
bucking bronco, or queuing for their 4th pizza, you could tell people were loving
it. Now I won’t disclose my time on the bronco, though luckily it wasn’t the worst
(though for a while I thought it would be). We even had Robin Baker, president
of the university coming down for some bouncy castle fun, so well done to
everyone that helped and attended that day!
Fresher’s week soon happened, and that was one hell of a busy week, literally
couldn’t believe how tired I was by the end. I still haven’t caught up on all my
sleep! Congrats to the rest of the team for putting on such a great week, and
finally giving me time to start focusing on my own job! So since freshers, we
already have had societies kick starting their activities. The football society, run
by Ben Bevan, has been really popular, with the members already getting their
official Ravensbourne kit. We will be closely following their games, so when we
do have one, come on down and support your team!
The Movie, Anime, Games, society has been going strong with already a successful movie night in the walker
space, as well as now their gaming nights every Other Tuesday in our very own SU Bar! (starting from the 23rd)
The first anime night was launched earlier this week, and from what I’ve been
told, it had a large turn out. Drama, have been hosting their nights as well as
Comedy working on getting some stand up happening in the SU Bar! The Snow
society have been advertising their latest ski trip around the university, so make
sure you guys check it out, last years was a blast!
All in all, our societies have been pretty active in just a few short weeks, but we
still want more! I have been told about issues surrounding advertising of events,
and this is something not just I but we as an SU are looking into and hoping
to change for the better. The website will hopefully be updated soon so that
everyone who has questions about how to join a society, start one up, or what
societies we do have will be answered in due time!
I can also announce that I will be planning a special little event for the end of this
term! Stayed tuned to the RSU facebook page to find out more in the future!
All in all we have had a pretty good couple of weeks so far, but with the first
Societies Federation Meeting happening soon, I hope that we can get the ball
rolling even more, and have our societies reach out to more of you in our
university!
If you have any concerns or ideas please email me!
